There is one thing I\u2019m sure of, my day should never start with the smell of bacon and eggs. That this morning does, means only shitty things will happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I skip showering, dig through both clean and dirty laundry looking for comfortable clothing, rather than dressing for fashion\u2013not that my friend Vivi would say I ever dress for fashion. Because mornings like this, that smell like breakfast, really aren\u2019t worth getting dressed up for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scratch that\u2013they aren\u2019t worth getting up for at all. But that ship sailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving as silently as possible, with all the stealth I\u2019m capable of, I make it to the third step from the bottom when my house betrays me. Eeeeeeek! <\/em>goes a horribly loud and obnoxious creak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLilah Anne Gray!\u201d My mother\u2019s screeching voice carries from the kitchen throughout downstairs. The neighbors probably hear it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My shoulders fall forward in defeat. Fucking bacon and eggs. I forego anymore creeping movements and take up a normal pace. A glance outside proves Vivi\u2019s car is waiting for me in the driveway. I smile. Escape is nigh!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMom, Vivi is waiting! I\u2019ll catch you later!\u201d I attempt a quick getaway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGet your ass in this kitchen right now!\u201d My father grunts out, and a stirring of dread fills my stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My bacon and egg filled father isn\u2019t a good man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drag my feet to the kitchen and stand in the doorway, hoping that distance from both of them will save me from whatever my gut is warning me to be wary of next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mom\u2019s not the threat. Not really. She\u2019s a bystander, an enabler. A depressive, emotional vampire that lives off the misery of others, with little desire to better herself and no interest in helping others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But my dad\u2026 he\u2019s the real danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pulls the seat next to him out and points at it like I\u2019m a Labrador, and like one that he\u2019s commanding I sit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
