Hikari raised her eyebrows as her eyes widened in surprise. \u201cI scared him?\u201d she croaked as she pointed from herself toward the doorway. The man continued to laugh as he nodded. \u201cHow?\u201d
\u201cApparently he thought you were going to vomit and instead you screamed his ears off,\u201d he chuckled.
\u201cThat makes two of us,\u201d she mumbled. She glanced toward the door then back at the man before her. \u201cI don\u2019t mean to sound rude, but, what is he?\u201d
\u201cHm? Never seen anyone like him, huh?\u201d
She shook her head. \u201cAnyone who looks like him are just stories where I grew up.\u201d
He tilted his head a bit before he responded. \u201cWell, Jiho is a wolf d\u00e6mon.\u201d
Hikari\u2019s eyes went wide as she turned to look at the man, his voice having none of the hate or anger behind it as she was used to getting from her father.
This man before her looked to be about the same age as him, but he was in much better shape. This man took care of himself. His kind face was clean shaven, his sandy brown hair brushed neatly, nor did he smell of beer.
\u201cI\u2019m sorry, a what now?\u201d
The man chuckled at her confusion. \u201cHe\u2019s a wolf d\u00e6mon. Around here, people refer to non-humans as d\u00e6mons.\u201d

\u201cSo, what now?\u201d
\u201cWell, that\u2019s up to you. You can tell me what happened to you if you like, but I won\u2019t push it. If you want to talk about anything, I\u2019ll listen. I don\u2019t know what happened to you, although I have a good guess. I would like to at least know your name, though.\u201d
Hikari narrowed her eyes and gave a little smirk. \u201cForgive me if I sound disrespectful, but I was always taught that you should give your own name before asking a stranger for theirs.\u201d
The man smiled and answered, \u201cYou can call me Doc. Most people do. But my mother called me John.\u201d
She nodded and replied, \u201cYou can call me Kari.\u201d
\u201cAlright, Kari, it\u2019s nice to meet you,\u201d he said as he extended a hand. She reached out with her left hand and grasped his. Before she could shake it, he placed his other hand over hers. Her body instantly went on alert.
As if sensing her unease, he squeezed her hand and released it. \u201cIt\u2019s alright, Kari. I know you\u2019re afraid and confused, but I promise you, you\u2019re safe. No one will harm you any further, you can be sure of that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n
